ABOUT ME
Welcome!
The lost arts... these are the things that hold my attention. The items that you will find here, and learn to make here range from decoupage to quilting. Anything that can be made beautiful with some time, patience and a few supplies interest me.
How I started... I can remember as far back as yesterday...
No really, I can remember when I was young and my mom would sew me an outfit for my Barbie... yes I had them.. and then I would want to make them prettier. I would try glitter, glue, and then I found a rhinestone setter at my grandmother's garage sale. It had been her daughters. Oh, the damage I did with that.
I learned the basics of a sewing machine from Girl Scouts- where both my parents were our leaders. I could sew a pocket! Sometimes I would get fancy and add a zipper! I sewed my first dress at about age 14. Since I am petite and the pattern was not, it didn't fit at all. I hated that I had put so much time into something that didn't fit right. It would be about 20 years before I tried to sew another piece of clothing. But I kept on sewing other things, when I had the time.
At about 12, I discovered quilling. I think it was in a library book. I had an old clarinet case, with all the lining tore out and I packed it with paper, glue, stick pins, and scissors. That's all you needed! I only quilled for a short time, but loved the cheap supplies to create something beautiful. This too would be an early craft that I would come back to later.
Once I had a job, Crafts, etc. was my home. They knew me there. I was always into some sort of craft, bow making for my hair, crewel needlepoint for the livestock show, jewelry, mums for homecoming. If I could get the supplies, I was good to go.
College saw a decrease in my crafting along with teaching (my first career) and marriage. As we began our new life together, I started to find I had more time for the arts. My husband, being artistic himself, encouraged these spurts of creativity. I started with scrappbooking our wedding, moved into stamping, digital scrapping, and more. My creative juices were flowing again!
After 12 years of marriage, and the support of my husband and friends (especially April), I have decided to start this web site and blog to share my joys and skills. I'm hoping that I can start some young people down the same road. Crafting doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to be fun. Many of the crafts that I enjoy are becoming lost arts, hence the name of this website. My goal is to introduce these arts to others, so that they are never lost. Join me!
